William gave me Uncle Tom's Cabin to read because it is one of his favorite books. It took me months and months to plug my way through this somewhat short, little book.
On the one hand, it was fascinating. I loved the history. I love the historical significance. I even loved Harriet Beecher Stowe's writing. I found her to be witty and emotional. But also preachy. Whenever Uncle Tom went on one of his long sermons about God, I sort of checked out. And I'm a fairly devout Christian.
Still, I read it.
